Global Vision condemns the intransigence of the Government in rushing the Bill ratifying the Lisbon Treaty into Law, only days after the Irish killed off the Treaty in their referendum.

Lord Blackwell, Chairman of Global Vision, said:

“The public should be suspicious why the Government was so keen for the UK to pass this Bill when they   know that the Treaty it ratifies is no longer  legally viable.

While no one knows what will happen now, it is quite possible that Europe will seek to agree new protocols for the Irish or consider implementing parts of the Treaty without Ireland. Parliament will now need to be extremely vigilant that the Government do not sign up to such significant changes and seek to slide them through without bringing any Treaty revisions back to Parliament for new legislation.”
