GLOBAL VISION SAYS "NOW WE MUST HAVE OUR REFERENDUM"

In response to today's signing of the Reform Treaty, Global Vision repeated its demand for a referendum on the treaty, which is - in all but name - the Constitutional Treaty.

Ruth Lea, Director of Global Vision, said:

"The Prime Minster's refusal to offer the people of this country a referendum on the Reform Treaty flies in the face of the electorate's wishes and his manifesto commitment. Our recent poll showed that 73% of the people wanted a referendum with only 9% believing that the Reform Treaty was different from the rejected Constitutional Treaty. If the Prime Minister continues down this mistaken path, he is letting the British people down."

Lord Blackwell, Chairman of Global Vision, added:

"Before Britain ratifies this Treaty we should have an honest debate about what the alternatives are to ever closer European Union. We don't have to turn our backs on Europe. If we say no, Britain would be in a powerful position to negotiate a new, looser relationship that met our desire for free trade and cooperation while opting out of the EU's costly and bureaucratic project for political and economic integration.'
