GLOBAL VISION URGES DENMARK TO HOLD REFERENDUM ON THE REFORM TREATY

Global Vision welcomed the Danish Prime Minister's announcement that the Danish people were to be given a referendum Denmark's four opt-outs, including membership of the euro, which were negotiated in the wake of the initial rejection of the Maastricht Treaty in 1992. The other three opt-outs comprise common defence policy, EU citizenship and non-intergovernmental justice and home affairs (including common immigration policy).

Ruth Lea, Director, of Global Vision said:

"We support Prime Minister Rasmussen's decision to give the Danish people their voice on euro membership, but he should go further. The Danes should be given an opportunity to vote on the Reform Treaty - as indeed should the British."
