GLOBAL VISION SAYS BROWN AGREEMENT TO THE REFORM TREATY A "SELL-OUT"

In response to Prime Minister Gordon Brown's agreement to the new Reform Treaty, Ruth Lea, Director of Global Vision said:

"Brown's agreement to the Reform Treaty is no less than a ‘sell-out'. The new treaty, which is essentially the same as the old Constitution, contains a huge transfer of powers from the Member States to the EU. Meanwhile the Government's ‘red lines' are little more than a sad attempt to distract us from the reality of this transfer of powers. As we learned recently from the European Scrutiny Committee, they will be remarkably ineffective in protecting Britain's national interests."

"The Government was elected in 2005 promising a referendum on the Constitution. It should keep its promise."

Lord Blackwell, Chairman of Global Vision,  said:

"This Treaty confirms that the EU is still intent on carrying forward its project of political  and economic integration.  The British people are overwhelmingly opposed to this, and must be given the chance to express their view."
