Daily Mail, Letters 15th September 2008Let us out! GISCARD D'ESTAING, architect of the EU Constitution, thinks Britain should be given 'special status' to stop it 'blocking the EU Superstate' (Mail). Presumably he doesn't expect special status for his own country, nor for Holland and Ireland, all of which voted 'No' in a referendum. Maybe he forgets that Britain helped to save his country from the Nazis in World War II. Now our reward is to be ripped off by energy company EDF, partly owned by the French government, and pay through the nose for French farming, via the Common Agricultural Policy. The 'special status' this country wants is to be rid of this bureaucratic nightmare for ever. STEPHEN NASH, Middle Barton, Oxon |
